At a young age Joe Ytuarte was exposed to electronic dance music. While still in high school, Joe was frequenting clubs and raves throughout the Midwest area in which he was raised. While traveling to nearby cities like Chicago, Madison, and Milwaukee to see
local DJ legends like Paul Johnson and Terry Mullan, he became hooked and was amazed at the potential a DJ had to influence a crowd.
After joining the US ARMY and living in North Carolina and later Virginia, he continued to go to clubs and one-offs, and this time experienced the east coast style. Before long though, Joe decided it was time to learn the art of DJing and after a career change from the army to college, he began to pursue DJing more seriously alongside computer programming.
While his original foundation was techno, he soon found himself developing and mixing a style of his own, escaping the confines of sticking to one specific genre. From the dubby sounds of Berlin's Basic Channel label to classic Chi-Town house, to Detroit Techno, Electro, Minimal and even Indie Dance Rock, these genres have all found their place in Joe's record collection and DJ sets.
This no-boundaries approach became even more realized when he and fellow native Virginian DJ/Producer Bryan Zentz hosted a night called "Electric Blend". Often tag-teaming together it wasn't uncommon to hear The Rapture, Jeff Mills and Steve Bug in the same set.
Recently Joe has taken the next step and has began producing his own music which you can often hear in his live DJ performances. With a hard work ethic and a penchant for detail, dont be surprised to hear his productions in the sets of other DJs in the not so distant future... From Airborne Infantryman turned Computer Programmer to DJ/Producer, who knows whats next for Joe. In the meantime however, be sure to check him out as one of Voodoo Rouge's very own resident DJs....
