Liquefaction (Li'kwa-fak'shun): 1. The process of liquefying. 2. The phenomenon in which an earthquake liquefies the ground.
This is a band which lives up to it's title. Liquefaction's music is a soundscape that is electronically charged with diverse contrasts of surreal, dream-like emotion and intense industrial styles created to melt the listener
...
into the world that is Liquefaction. They cater to themes beyond the norm by introducing metaphoric Sci-Fi/Fantasy characters and story lines into their music and live shows, comparing ideas of the Earth's abolishment with our own perception of the world outside ourselves. Delving deeply into the psyche of an actual earthling, feeling misplaced, awkward and uncertain.. you will not hear your generic love song, but rather an intense journey which most, if honest, can relate to.
Formed by Kindel, (front woman, synths, vocals, programming) and now featuring Sine, (synths, guitar & programming,) Liquefaction made it's debut in 2003 with the release of "Chrysalis." In 2004, they released their second Album,"Emerge." While mainly solo, Kindel has collaborated with artists from around the world, expanding the Liquefaction sound to new dimensions.
Heavily influenced by bands like Pink Floyd and Depeche Mode, Kindel's main objective is to make her listeners think and feel. She longs to effect her audience with the passion which fuels her as a musician and as a fan of music.
"Kindel sings with a breathy rasp that's at once engaging and disconcerting." Comments Micheal Henningsen of Albuquerque's Alibi. "Her beautifully crafted melodies are then juxtaposed against a dream-like backdrop of musical menace and frightfully satisfying grooves." "With Emerge, Liquefaction has managed to create one of the sexiest albums out there right n ow," says Sameerah Blue of the LA based zine, "Ectomag," "Liquefaction has created a near perfect marriage of sensual sounds with lyrics that convey the power, strength and sadness of the world around us." "At times it could be compared with Android Lust but also Portishead and I may be crazy but Tori Amos. What also makes this a good release is that it is totally female fronted, written and composed, which is rare," says Gothx of Wet Works Zine. DJ M of Cyber Impact in Bologna, Italy states, "Another fine example of the electronic female music coming out from the underground!" And Jim Rosebrook, the director of the Recording Workshop, described Kindel as "The epitome of the future musician."
Liquefaction will to continue to grow in the scene, putting out more albums and hopes to eventually tour the world. Kindel shares her thoughts by saying; "Liquefaction is a dream come true for me. It challenges me creatively and gives me an indescribable satisfaction to see my audiences dance, cry and get pissed off right along with me. They really get what I'm doing and that's how I know I'm where I'm supposed to be."

LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: hey alright. now were all here haha
Kindel: Cool!
...
EDM SPECTRUM:
yeah!!
LIQUEFACTION:
Kindel: Nice! What's up? Hi
Sine: All right i think im ready
EDM SPECTRUM:
Not much! Kindel you ready?
LIQUEFACTION:
Kindel: Sorry for making you guys wait on me. I'm ready
EDM SPECTRUM:
Ok! So how did you guys come up with the name "Liquefaction"?
LIQUEFACTION:
Kindel: Hehehe
Sine: LoL ohh god you want my version or hers?
EDM SPECTRUM:
Either
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: Ok, Kindel
Kindel: I was working with DSBP on "Dude! Mine first"! DSBP was putting out a number compilations and I noticed it was all guys and it was starting to bum me out. So I had the idea of putting an all female compilation CD together. But it needed a cool name. I came up with Liquefaction. After the next few days, I could not stop thinking about that name. I loved it! So the compilation idea never came to surface and I stole the name for myself.
EDM SPECTRUM:
LOL!
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: its true the name is awesome, i love it haha
Kindel: And then there's Sine's detailed version of the story.
EDM SPECTRUM:
Go Sine what's your version?
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: LoL well.... not detailed but i think i told a guy in texas last week that (and this is the version she had in one of her interviews) that she was sitting on the John one day and reading the dictionary. read the definition of it and couldnt stop thinking about it LoL!
Kindel: Hehehe
EDM SPECTRUM:
LOL! Ah jeez!
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: that's more rockstar Kindel. LoL
Kindel: I try
EDM SPECTRUM:
So, what got you guys into making electronic music?
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: well actually i hated Electroninc Music untill about 8 or 9 years ago. and then i heard KMFDM and it changed my perspective totally. cause they were the embodiment of what i could do by myself, and i just thought that was sooooo cool that you could make an entire band all by yourself and not have to deal with any of the bullshit that goes with 4 other people being in your band!! they started what i now love and hope to one day make a carreer of
Kindel: I'd say Opus III did it and a number of other bands. I used to listen to electronic music as a kid and try to play along with my parent's upright piano. I'd get so frustrated because I couldn't make those cool synth noises. I played acoustic guitar for years because that's what I could afford. I did the whole singer/songwriter thing for years and then finally got my Korg. DSBP really pushed me into the electronic scene and made my obsession all the more intense. Tommy T, of DSBP really opened up the electro world to me and took a chance on me after only hearing my acoustic music and some electronic thing I had done on Cakewalk years ago. He knew I had it in me, he opened up his studio to me and let me go.
EDM SPECTRUM:
So what brought you two together?
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: The internet LoL! there was a local band website, for musians looking for bands in columbus, and she was really the only one looking for an industrial band. i was as well so she contacted me and i guess i was the first one to Drive an hour and a half away to record with her.
Kindel: I went to school for record engineering for a second time in 2004 in Ohio and I ended up staying here. I wasn't really able to start a band before but I really wanted to play live and so I started searching.
Sine was awesome. I found him on a website and he was saying he'd really like to try out that electronic music. And in the same post was talking about costumes and makeup. lol.. I knew I at least had to meet him.
Sine: LoL yeah i was i love theatrics durning a show due to my previous band, but we wont mention them
Kindel: I love the stage to be alive. More than just the same ole' 4 guys standing there with instruments.
Sine: Yeah, dressed like crap!
Kindel: I like working with people that are into creating an actual show.
Sine: no doubt Kindel i love that stuff
Kindel: So I contacted him. The next day he drove down and two days later we were in the studio laying down tracks. Hehehe!
Sine: haha, cause im aweosme LoL
Kindel: hehe. That's a huge deal! I talked to several musicians before I met him and it was impossible for them to meet up.
Sine: yeah or they were just lazy Kindel LoL!
Kindel: I need hard working and dedicated and he showed that right off the bat. Hehehe!
EDM SPECTRUM:
lol! Now, with two albums under your belts, what does Liquefaction have in store for us next?
LIQUEFACTION:
Kindel: Album 3 is almost finished!
Sine: ooooo i love this new album. it is probably the most amazing thing you will ever hear! it'll make all your dreams... and nightmares come true... I cannot wait LoL!
EDM SPECTRUM:
Can't wait! I'm a big fan of "Lifeless"!
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: then you will love this new album...... i guarantee it... ohh yeah she is on this man... she is the hardest working girl ive ever met!
Kindel: In theory, it is supposed to be a 5 disc series and I am writing the screenplay!
EDM SPECTRUM:
Screenplay?
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: we got plans... haha
Kindel: Yeah.
EDM SPECTRUM:
LOL! No spoilers now!
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: LoL! Im not saying a word!
Kindel: Yeah, can't spoil it. Other than that, I'm working on a 5.1 surround mix. It's the new stereo.
Sine: LoL yeah it is!
EDM SPECTRUM:
So, speaking of your "Lifeless ESR" track... I love the intro with Christopher Walken. Tell us how you brought this track to fruition. From inception to completion.
LIQUEFACTION:
Kindel: hehe.. I dated a guy.. man, about 9 years ago that quoted the Prophesy like mad. He was the one that introduced me to Cakewalk and I got him to put a quote up on one of the tracks I was working on from the movie. It stuck with me and as I started writing for Liquefaction, it fit in with what I was writing about. I was very excited to use them again. And it's kind of sentimental. And the rocks star answer... "Dude, it sounded cool"
Sine: and amazing.... i love that.. its on my cell phone haha!
EDM SPECTRUM:
LOL! I see that you guys draw a lot from the Goth scene, who are your biggest influences?
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: ooooo i like this question. shes more underground and im more mainstream. I love the bands i mentioned earlier, KMFDM, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, umm.... VnV Nation, and LoL.. wierd but true... Metallica
Kindel: As far as style, and Goth to me is more of a style than a genre. I'm actually influenced by the UK club scene, Anime and Asian street style.
Sine: Asians know how to do it haha! and you actually lived in the UK for a while so you know what the club scene is like over there huh?
Kindel: As for music, I'm influenced by DSBP bands, Dependant Records.. Metropolis bands.. Cop International.. I'm really into synth-pop.. accept VNV.. never really got into them.
Sine: LoL well they were my first "love" so to speak.
Kindel: Hehe, My current major obsession is with Mind.In.A.Box. I can not get enough of them.
Sine: Good band! For me as far as the scene goes? i dont know, i always try and stick to my own style... but im really into the 80's synth pop and Glam band look. i love that stuff
EDM SPECTRUM:
What 80's band do you most identify with?
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: i love big hair and guys with make-up, i always thought it was sooooo cool when i was a kid when like Flock of Seagulls, or Gary Neuman came on MTV.... Ummmm i see myself idendifying with Gary Neuman, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode.. bands like that
EDM SPECTRUM:
What kind of equipment do you use to make music?
LIQUEFACTION:
Kindel: My Korg is my primary instrument. On the first two albums I was using Rebirth and Reason as drum machines, mostly and now it's pretty much all done on keyboards.
Sine: I use mostly plug ins, i have a micro Korg as well that comes in handy and an old Juno 106. Lots of sampled drum beats as well.
EDM SPECTRUM:
What does music mean to you?
LIQUEFACTION:
Kindel: Um... air? I'm weird.. I actually see music. It's it's own life force and it's own reality and dimension. It's the place I go where I fit in and belong.
Sine: its true Kindel! thats the same way i feel.... its just an embodiment of everything for me. Its emotion, its Power, Its somthing that will never Die... it will always be in your face.
EDM SPECTRUM:
What would you say are your strengths and weaknesses?
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: as far as songs go?
EDM SPECTRUM:
Sure, or anything really.... in general
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: ahh i see.. well as far as the songs go... I know i personally need to work on melodies... i get catchy hooks but i dont think of a song in the same way a singer would...
Kindel: My strengths are concepts, ideas, I start writing a song and it becomes puzzle pieces and I arrange it to form a picture. My weaknesses are in technology.
EDM SPECTRUM:
then it seems you guys are a perfect match!
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: Tech is one of my strong points... thats why we fit haha! we just work i dont know call it what you will but we fit...
Kindel: There's so much I hear that I want to portray but as I'm inspired to write, find myself frustrated inside of manuals and it pisses me off to no-end.
Sine: LoL yeah i understand that Kindel!
EDM SPECTRUM:
LoL! If you had the opportunity to collab with one other artist right now, who would it be? and why?
LIQUEFACTION:
Kindel: That's an awesome question. There's a number of people I want to work with and a few that I am already. ... Oddly enough.. Trent Reznor... for the same reason as Sine.. he writes music the same way that I do. More live and no Midi. I think the outcome would really interesting. Other than that... Depeche Mode because they are right where my head is at right now.
Sine: Depeche mode rocks my world haha! I'd say Gary Neuman... cause he is my favorite.. and I've read a lot about what he does and how he writes music the same way i do... Thats comforting... on a lot of levels
EDM SPECTRUM:
if you could perform at any club in the world, where would it be?
LIQUEFACTION:
Kindel: I think Germany.
Sine: anywere in Germany...
Kindel: Hehe! Yup... Germany
EDM SPECTRUM:
that's a big club! LoL!
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: LoL!! yeah it is
Kindel: Hell yeah!
EDM SPECTRUM:
Sine, what about you?
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: I wanna play the Roxy in Los Angeles. But anywere in Germany or the U.K. I got to play on Sunset once... about 3 blocks down from there haha
EDM SPECTRUM:
How about some fun? If you were stranded on an island and you could have three things, what would they be? Why?
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: LoL a solor powered radio...cause i need music!
Kindel: I was thinking about that the other day...
Sine: ummmm.... shoes....cause i like to wear them...
and a gun with a bullet... cause who knows, i might get bored after a while LoL!!
Kindel: Toilet paper, a pen and a Bop-it game!
Sine: LoL bop-it rules...
Kindel: lol... My computer... cuz I can't live without it, my keyboard cuz I can't live without it and my blanky... cuz I can't sleep with out it. A generator and endless supply of gasoline would be nice too.
EDM SPECTRUM:
What would you guys name the Island?
LIQUEFACTION:
Kindel: Hell, LoL! Especially if I didn't get my generator!!
Sine: "the four dicks have taken control... have a nice day" that would be a sweet name!
EDM SPECTRUM:
LOL!! What was the first job you ever had?
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: LoL ohh god.. it was a Pizza place here in Ohio... and they worked me (when i was 14) untill 2am... yeah that was a dumb job!
Kindel: Secretary clerk at a school. I did all the secretary's work and got paid $1.50 an hour.
EDM SPECTRUM:
Jeez!
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: damn at least i got $5!!! LoL
Kindel: Sucked... I'm not that old, they paid that crappy!
EDM SPECTRUM:
What was the worst 80's style you ever sported?
LIQUEFACTION:
Kindel: hehe... Remember the thing where you would fold over the bottom of your jeans and then roll them up so it's tight at the ankle? ... never knew what that was called..
EDM SPECTRUM:
Pegging, I remember. LOL!
LIQUEFACTION:
Kindel: Well, I was in gradeschool and growing and of course I wasn't cool unless I did that.. but once they were rolled up they would be in the middle of my calf... My Dad thought it was the "High look" that was in and so they never did anything to fix it. Bangs sticking strait up.. my parents hated the fashions so they did the best they could to make it as hard as possible for me to look cool.... they'd make me cut my bangs super short so I'd have this tiny little rise in my bangs.
EDM SPECTRUM:
You mean "Mall Hair"?
LIQUEFACTION:
Kindel: Yup... I grew up in New Mexico... My dad called it "The Chicana look."
Sine: those damn Leg warmers!!!!!!!! the hot pink ones!!! that look like they piled like 29 pairs of socks put together
EDM SPECTRUM:
You wore leg warmers Sine!?!?!
LIQUEFACTION:
I didnt!! im sorry i thought you said spotted LoL!!! ohh my god im a geek. ok Acid washed jeans and a metal t-shirt... everyday.. LoL.. i rocked!
EDM SPECTRUM:
Did you wear the bandana around the leg?
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: me? i did when the 80's werent cool anymore LoL!!! and the sad part is.. i didnt know that the 80's werent cool anymore. LoL, i had a mullet till i was 14 LoL!!!!!
EDM SPECTRUM:

Kindel: Yes, Heart of the Sunrise... What's that do re mi fa so la ti do song? That would be a good one to start you out with...lol j/k, um... Pink Floyd, Shine On and Depeche Mode "Walking In My Shoes"

LIQUEFACTION:

Kindel: Yeah, they do!
EDM SPECTRUM:
A couple more questions... What advice do you have for the aspiring musical artist?
LIQUEFACTION:
Sine: Do everything you can to get your music out there.. its not going to get out there by itself
Kindel: Here's the best advice I got.. "Quit." It only inspired and motivated me all the more.
EDM SPECTRUM:
